Permits Available for Goods Vehicles
There are 3 types of vehicle permits for a goods vehicle. They are -
1. Good Carriers
This type of permit is necessary for those vehicles that carry goods. You can obtain this permit as per the Motor Vehicles Act 1988. Then the car has permission to run inside the state.
2. Counter Signature of Good Carriers Permits
This permit is issued in one state and yet is valid in other states subject to approval from local authorities. However, there is one exception. Delhi refuses to issue this permit to those vehicles that weigh above 7500 kilos and are not running on clean fuel.
3. National Permits
If a goods vehicle is required to move out of the home state, it will require a national permit. The permit is issued for 4 states in continuation, including the home state. Moreover, the age of the goods vehicle should not be more than 12 years. If the vehicle is a multi-axle vehicle, the age should not be more than 15 years to sanction a permit. The forms you will need to fill are Form 46 and Form 48.
Permits Available for Passenger Vehicles
There are also different permits available for passenger vehicles.
1. Auto Rickshaw and Taxi Permit for Vehicles
This permit is issued in Delhi. The MLO Burari gives it. The tariff imposed by these vehicles is calculated by a meter.
2. Permit for Maxi Cab
Again, this is also issued in Delhi. Moreover, the STA directs the charges, and the total number of passengers in the vehicle has to be less than 13.
3. Phat-Phat Sewa
This permit is issued to those vehicles that run on a particular route and carry 10 people, including the driver.
4. Eco-friendly Sewa
Further, this permit is issued to all vehicles of 3 wheelers and runs on battery. Moreover, it has to have a capacity of 11 with the driver.
5. Permits for Chartered Buses
This vehicle permit is issued mainly for rental and payment purposes. Moreover, a contract is signed between a permit holder and an operator. This allows the bus to run on a definite route. Further, the bus driver must have a list of all passengers travelling on the route and not allow anyone else to travel.
6. Permits for Stage Carriages
The Delhi Transport Corporation and other private buses fall under this category of permits. The Delhi Government issues this permit to the buses travelling on various routes in the city.
7. Temporary Basis Permits
These permits are sanctioned to vehicles outside of Delhi for a restricted period. There are several conditions under which a car is given a provisional permit. They are as follows -
- For vehicles that run beyond the city limits and have passengers:
- For any religious affair or resolution.
- Also, for any cyclical business.
- Those who need to apply for a renewal of a permit.
- To get the permit for a motor cab, the following conditions need to be met:
- The vehicle must be white.
- Moreover, they must have a seating capacity of 5.
- There should be an office with a telephone so that passengers can book the vehicle.
- Further, it would help if you had the required finances to buy the car you are applying for a permit.
- There should also be adequate parking space for the vehicles.
8. Rent-a-cab Permits
To avail of a rent-a-cab permit, you need to comply with the following conditions.
- You should own a 24-hour telephone.
- There should be sufficient parking space for the vehicles.
- You must be the owner of a minimum of 50 cars, and 50% of them must be air-conditioned.
- The passenger tax ought to be paid in the state where the vehicle runs.
9. Institution or School Buses
These buses are painted golden yellow and are typically exempt from road tax. Moreover, they are owned by educational institutes.
10. All India Tourist Permit or AITP
If the vehicle is a bus, it must be white and has to be a luxury bus. Moreover, a blue ribbon of 5 cm breadth is positioned at the middle of the bus’ body. The word “Tourist” must be mentioned on the two edges of the vehicle.
Important points to note concerning a licence -
- The National Permit is valid for 9 years from the issuance date of a motor cab. Moreover, it is 8 years for other vehicles.
- If the vehicle has been substituted by another car less than 2 years old, there is no need for any renewal.
- Moreover, the motor vehicles should be supplied with a public address system, ease of drinking water, indoor curtains, small fans and a separate driver’s cabin.
